A Petromax placed on a boat. Fisherman standing on a boat in the middle of the river under the bridge looking for prey. The camera goes under the water with the stone. The stone hits the foothills and the camera pans to the right, away from the stone. A hand is visible. Maybe even nail polish. The name of the film appears on the screen, ‘Gaslight’. When there was no electricity in the villages and more light was needed for family and social functions, gas lights were hired. This gaslight consists of a filter-like cloth bag tied with a string around a jet-shaped earthenware device that ignites pressurized kerosene to produce a bright white light. This is the indigenous meaning of ‘gaslight’. In English, ‘gaslight’ means to psychologically harass someone so much that he begins to trust his own logic or intelligence. The film ‘Gaslight’ is a story walking on this fine line.
