LG Electronics has announced the launch of its first domestic butler robot “Q9” (project name) next year. The robot was unveiled at an event held at LG’s Gasan R&D campus in Seoul, South Korea. The company gave detailed information about the design and features of Q9 at the event.

Combination of Emotional Interaction and Smart Home Control

The Q9 robot is designed with the aim of being at the center of the smart home. It will control home appliances on the user’s voice command. For example, if the user says, “Find me a good entertainment movie,” the Q9 will turn on the TV and find and play the suggested movie. If the user says, “I’m feeling a little sad,” it will play music and adjust the lighting according to the user’s mood.

New Advances in AI and Movement Technology

The Q9 is equipped with a “gravity compensation device” to enable it to stand and walk stably. This technology helps it blend naturally into the home environment. In addition, the Q9 uses OpenAI’s GPT-4o AI model, which gives it the ability to create stories based on the user’s needs. For example, if the user draws a picture and wants to hear a story based on it, the Q9 can instantly present a unique story.

Pricing and Launch Plans

However, LG has not yet announced the official name and price of the Q9. Korean media speculates that it will be priced in millions of won and will be integrated with home appliance subscription services to reduce the cost burden on consumers.

According to market research firm MarketsandMarkets, the home robot market is expected to grow from $13.5 billion in 2022 to $43.6 billion by 2030. LG’s Q9 robot will not only be limited to controlling appliances, but it will also be able to communicate emotionally with humans. With domestic robots like Samsung’s “Bolly” and China’s Hisense’s “Hally” also set to hit the market next year, competition is likely to intensify.

LG’s Q9 robot will usher in a new era in smart home technology, where better and more natural communication between humans and technology will be possible.
