Microsoft launches CoPilot AI Wave 2: What’s New?

Microsoft’s CoPilot AI, now in its second wave, continues to evolve in the Microsoft 365 family. This new wave focuses on making the suite easier to use for collaboration, analysis of data, and productivity. New updates focus on streamlining smarter workflows and advanced analytics that can easily be implemented for businesses and individual users.

A new feature that really differentiates Wave 2 is called “Copilot Pages,” described as a dynamic, interactive canvas for AI-enhanced teamwork. Copilot Pages is built for joint simultaneous collaboration and allows users to co-edit in real time, while the AI is working alongside as a collaborating partner. Users can easily edit and share; it includes all types of content from different kinds of data sets and files. It is already available to the users of Microsoft 365 and will be rolled out to free versions by the end of this month.

AI capabilities in Microsoft Excel are enhanced by integrating the Python programming language in Wave 2. Now, users can run advanced analyses- such as forecasting, risk assessment, machine learning- using no code at all! Other new features include new formulas for better charting, better conditional formatting, and text recognition so users can make better data-driven decisions.

“Copilot Agents” applies AI to automate and execute business processes. Copilot Agents can be special customised chatbots that will answer questions from within an organization, based on a business’ knowledge base. It tries to smooth internal communication and task execution to make companies work more productively.

Wave 2 introduces new capabilities across all key applications in Microsoft:

โ€ข Word: Enhanced referencing functionality allowing users to quickly add internet content, emails, or other attachments into their documents.

โ€ข Outlook: This will feature a new “Prioritize my inbox” functionality. It helps users narrow down their emails on the basis of email content and context related to the user’s role.

โ€ข Teams: AI-based video call and chat transcripts summaries ensure that users never miss essential points when interacting with others via virtual meetings.

โ€ข PowerPoint: The “narrative builder” simplifies and speeds up the process of making presentations with drafts generated by AI that can be refined based on simple prompts.

โ€ข OneDrive: Improved searching of ensures the Copilot “reason” through all files much faster, thus able to retrieve the information efficiently.

Conclusion:

Wave 2 of Microsoft’s CoPilot AI represents an aggressive integration of AI in work processes along increasing its collaboration in analysis of data, and productivity. With advanced tools like Python incorporated into Excel, as well as Copilot Pages which make complex tasks easy, Microsoft is pushing the AI-powered tool adoption to a wider audience.

Microsoft had introduced Copilot in March 2023 as as enhanced assistant over bing AI assistant, and since then, it has continued to position Copilot as a suite of AI features offered my Microsoft.

It will be interesting to see as to how Copilot does attract a larger user base to get accustomed to the process of incorporating these new features into daily life and how does other businesses make use of the many features that Microsoft offers!
