Buenos Aires (Argentina). France crashed out of the U-20 World Cup football competition despite a 3-1 win over Honduras in their final group stage match.
France lost their first two matches in Group F, failing to qualify for the knockout stages. Gambia and South Korea were able to advance from the group. France needed one more goal to finish out of the best four teams in third place. With this they would have reached the last 16 on better goal difference and Tunisia would have been eliminated.
The match played between Gambia and South Korea in Group F ended in a goalless draw. African team Gambia will face Uruguay in the next round, while Asian team South Korea will face Ecuador. Meanwhile, England topped Group E with a goalless draw with Iraq. Uruguay beat Tunisia 1-0 to take second place.
France’s poor performance saw Tunisia advance to the next round where they will face Brazil. England will face Italy in the last 16 on Wednesday.
