Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Movie Review: Great Performances But Weak Storyline
There is a huge craze for comedy films these days, and due to this many filmmakers are releasing their new films, and in the meantime, the film ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video‘ has been released recently but this film has not lived up to the expectations of the audience. The film is set in the 1990s and is based on the story of a newlywed couple in the backdrop of Rishikesh. Directed by Raj Shandilya, the film is a romantic-comedy which was released on 11 October 2024. The trailer of the film had created a lot of excitement for this film among the audience, but the film has not become as impressive to the audience as expected.
Story Summary (Without Spoilers)
The story of the film ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ revolves around Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) and his wife Vidya (Triptii Dimri). The two are a middle-class newlywed couple who capture their first night on video. Unfortunately, this video recording gets stolen and they fear that it might harm their personal life and their respect in society. In the process of finding this video, the whole film turns into a hilarious whirlpool where Vicky and Vidya face hilarious situations to save their reputation.
Performance of the Cast
Rajkummar Rao has given his natural performance as Vicky. He has brought depth and reality to the character of a small town common man. Triptii Dimri looks natural and simple as Vidya. Though the story of the film is weak, both the lead actors try to bring life to the film with their acting. Vijay Raj, who plays a police officer, impresses with his comic timing as always. Mallika Sherawat has also appeared on screen after a long time and her character tries to make the audience laugh.
Direction and Screenplay
Raaj Shaandilyaa, like his earlier works, has used comedy as a medium this time too, but this time his screenplay seems very weak and scattered. An attempt has been made to touch some serious issues along with comedy in the story, but there is a lack of coordination in them. The direction of the film is good at some places, but at times the story gets lost in meaningless scenes. The dialogues also do not leave much impact and they do not have the sharpness that can keep the audience engaged.
Cinematography and Scenes
The cinematography of the film is normal. Rishikesh’s scenes and the small town setup have been depicted well, but there is no special scene in the film that will be remembered for a long time. The camera work and visual effects are normal, which match the story of the film, but do not attract much.
Music and Background Score
Some old songs have been used in the film like ‘Sajna Ve Sajna’ and ‘Na Na Na Re’. The music and the story of the film are not well coordinated and it fails to enhance the comedy element of the film. The background score is also mediocre, which does not help in strengthening the scene.
Theme and Message
The film has also tried to raise some social issues, like privacy and women’s rights, but all this comes suddenly at the end of the film. Due to this, the message seems unnecessary and forced to the audience. The film mainly starts as an entertaining comedy, but it loses its direction towards the end.
Audience Response and Box Office Collection
The film has received mixed response from the audience. Some people have praised the performances of Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, but on the other hand, most of the audience has criticized the story and direction of the film. The budget of this film is around 20 to 30 crores, and till now this film has earned a decent amount. The film has performed average at the box office, grossing around Rs 21.37 crore in India box office collection and around Rs 27.88 crore in worldwide box office collection till 14 October 2024, due to its weak content and screenplay.
Positive and Negative Aspects of the Film
Positive | Negative |
---|---|
Performances of Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri | Weak screenplay |
Vijay Raj’s comic timing | Unnecessary and pointless scenes |
Perfect portrayal of small town life | Poor direction |
Background score and music do not go well with the film |
Verdict
‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ is a film that fails in its attempt at comedy. If you are a fan of Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, then you can watch this film once, but if you are looking for a good screenplay and strong comedy, then this film will probably not live up to your expectations.
