World’s First Remote Robotic Surgery Across 2,000 Kilometers with Minimal Delay Successfully Completed in China

World's First Remote Robotic Surgery

On November 28, Professor Zheng Ying of West China Second Hospital of Sichuan University took a major step in medical history. She successfully performed a single-arm single-port robot-assisted total hysterectomy on a female patient on a female patient located in Lhasa, Tibet, while controlling the system remotely from Chengdu.

The surgery was performed at a distance of nearly 2,000 kilometers and an altitude of 3,000 meters. The entire procedure was completed with an incision of just 2.5 centimeters and the operation was successfully completed in 90 minutes. The network delay during the operation was only 40 milliseconds, making it possible to perform in real-time.

The Jingfeng single-arm single-port laparoscopic surgical robot used in this operation is developed in China. It is China’s only approved single-port surgical robot, and its technical capability is internationally leading.

This surgery is part of West China Second Hospital’s “Robotic Remote Surgery Paradigm”, which has opened up new possibilities in robotics and remote surgery.

A New Revolution in the Medical Field

This historic surgery proves that with the help of modern technology, quality medical services can be provided even in remote and inaccessible areas. This achievement of reducing network delays ensured that the operation was completed in real-time and without any interruption.

This success not only represents innovation in the medical field, but also shows how the integration of technology and healthcare can improve the lives of patients. In the future, this technology can play an important role in making healthcare accessible and effective in remote areas.

This revolutionary achievement will be remembered as an inspirational example in the medical and technological world.
