Melbourne. Off-spinner Nathan Lyon believes that talks on the Ashes will not affect Australia’s preparations for the World Test Championship final and has termed the final against India as a ‘grand final’.
The WTC final between India and Australia will be played at the Oval from June 7, while the five-Test Ashes series against England will begin from June 16.
“We are playing the Ashes but there is a big match to play before that,” Lyon told the Australian Associated Press.
WTC “Every Aussie fan is looking forward to the Ashes but there should be excitement about this match as well,” he said.
Lyon said that the 1.2 loss in the Test series in India will not have any impact on this match. He said, “What happened in India cannot be changed but both teams are well prepared. India have some good batsmen and fast bowlers too, so it will be a good challenge.” This is a new match and will be played from scratch.
