X Launches New ‘Video Tab’ in the US to Compete with TikTok, Coming Soon to Other Countries

Elon Musk-owned social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has launched the ‘Video Tab’ feature in the US from January 20, 2025. This new feature allows users to post viral videos, premium content and live events easily and on full screen. The move comes amid the return of TikTok’s services, which are now resuming in the US after a ban on January 19, 2025. This feature may also be introduced in other countries soon.

What is X’s new โ€œVideo Tabโ€?

X’s new video tab offers users a full-screen and personalized video experience, where they can watch videos related to sports, entertainment, news and live events according to their interest. It can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Play’ button in the navigation bar at the bottom of the app.

X CEO Linda Yaccarino said, “With the video tab we have changed the way we watch and share videos. If you are not on X, you are out of this digital transformation.” Elon Musk believes that this feature will help make X a leading video platform.

According to Harris Poll, video views on X have already increased by 40%. Also, X has established itself as the number 1 brand among Gen Z, who now make up 35% of the platform’s users.

Restoration of TikTok and this move by X

TikTok, which was banned in the US on January 19, 2025 for security reasons, is now restoring its services. TikTok’s parent company ByteDance thanked Donald Trump for helping in this decision and said that now American service providers will not have to face any punishment or fine. Meanwhile, X has posed a big challenge to TikTok by launching its new video tab.

New Opportunity for Creators and Brands

This video tab of X has brought great opportunities not only for users but also for brands and content creators. Famous chef Nick DiGiovanni called it a great achievement for the creators and said that they are excited to share their food and cooking content here. Other popular creators also praised this feature and called it the most influential platform of today’s time.

Along with this, X is also giving brands the opportunity to give the first slot for advertising in the video tab, which will help in increasing their reach and recognition. After the successful launch in the US, X plans to bring this feature to other regions by the end of 2025.
