Kawasaki W230

Kawasaki has unveiled officially at Japan Mobility Show 2023 the retro-styled Kawasaki W230, and this new motorcycle tries to speak to enthusiasts of the classics while still offering a series of modern features. Here is everything you might want to know about this bike’s key features, pricing expectations, and potential availability in India.

Classic Design with Modern Touches

A pretty retro Kawasaki W230 with an old-time design, round headlamp, teardrop fuel tank, wire-spoked wheels, and chrome-finished exhaust and handlebar. The bike is complemented by the beautiful, retro-style twin-pod analog instrument cluster that carries a tiny digital display for those trying to remain modern yet still nostalgic for the good old days. The seating position is relaxed, so this one can be ridden by nearly anyone of any age.

Engine and Performance

The W230 comes with a 233cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. Again, Kawasaki has not confirmed this, but reports tell that it is the same as the KLX230, where it pushes about 17.2 bhp and 18.9 Nm of torque. However, the company will apparently fine-tune the engine for this retro job. Specially designed dual-channel ABS disc brakes on both ends and telescopic front forks with twin rear shock absorbers provide a smooth ride.

Competitive Pricing

The price of the Kawasaki W230 is $5,599 in global markets. If it reaches the Indian shores, it would compete in the same bracket as its rivals, such as Royal Enfield Classic 350, Honda H’ness CB350, and Jawa models. The importance of the Kawasaki W230 would lie in pricing it attractively, most probably by the local assembly to bring down the costs.

Availability in India

The W230 is slated for launch in Japan and select European markets. Whether Kawasaki will introduce the W230 in India remains to be seen, but it is not unfathomable, considering the growth in demand for such retro motorcycles in India after the success of the W175.

With the promise of a balance of old-school charm and modern functionality, the Kawasaki W230 could be that strong contender to play out in the classic motorcycle market that will soon be dashing in with its retro design, reliable engine, and competitive pricing. Indian fans of the W series should stay tuned for updates on when the bike might hit the country.
