The Skoda Kylaq will be built on the MQB A0 IN platform, which is part of Skoda and VW Group’s India 2.0 program. This platform has been jointly developed by teams from India and the Czech Republic.

The speciality of the MQB A0 IN platform is that it has been designed according to Indian roads and conditions. The Skoda Kylaq will get a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, which will generate 115 horsepower and 178 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that is given in Kushaq and Slavia. With this, the option of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission will also be available. Skoda claims that this engine has been tested for about 800,000 km on Indian roads, which can be gauged from its performance and durability.

It will be given more than 25 active and passive safety features, such as 6 airbags, traction and stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), and brake disc wiping. Hot-formed steel will be used in its chassis, which will increase safety during a collision.

It has been tested in various weather and temperature conditions from -10 °C to +85 °C. Skoda says that this has ensured the reliability and performance of the vehicle.

Launch timeline and price

Skoda will showcase its new car, the Skoda Kylaq globally on November 6, 2024, and it will be available for sale from January of 2025. Talking about the price, it is expected to be between Rs 8-12 lakh. With this pricing, it will directly compete with sub-compact SUVs like Maruti Brezza, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3X0, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
